Top performers at school

Today we celebrated the success of our girls and boys at school. Last year the boys in particular performed exceptionally well, with 14 of 17 finishing in the top three of their class. Enana was the only girl to top her class, so we’re hoping for a improvement from the girls year. Come on girls!

We rewarded the top performers with a new school bag in a ceremony at OB Café. We hope that the rewards encourage the kids to keep up their hard work.

Special thanks to Roger from Canada, whose recent donation made this possible.

A new look office

Out with the old, in with the new; the last few days have seen a big clear out of the office, as part of a current drive to get ourselves more efficient and organised.

After 5 years of the old set up, we have now got a more spacious and airy office, with room to accommodate at least 17 kids, as today’s weekly ‘check up’ with the girls will testify.

We're very happy with the change. If you'd like to pop by the office, here's a PDF of how to find us.

The ups and downs of planning our new project

After months of positive discussions, a decision on receiving land from the Government for our ‘Home for Tomorrow’ was imminent.

Today we got the decision… it was a no. Devastating news! Apparently there is a new law that prioritises land for other purposes.

After the initial disappointment we bounced back. Ato Mankir, the chairman of our General Assembly, was shocked; he knew nothing of such a new law. He will follow up with his contacts in government.

We then went to see the Mayor of Gonder. He was outraged. “This is a project for the community” he cried. He is now going to write a letter to the government on our behalf.

This was a bit of a setback but to see the way in which our supporters have rallied to our cause is a really positive outcome.

One way or the other we will make this home happen.
